Abstract
The economy of Assam is growing significantly over the post reform period without generating sufficient employment opportunities for its increased labour force. The share of agriculture in domestic product of the state is in a downward trend and employment tends to shift away from farm sector to non-farming sectors. However, owing to inadequate training and skills, many rural youths of the state are not able to cope themselves with the emerging employment opportunities generated in the growing service and industrial sectors of the state. So, the estimation of the employment intensity of the growth in the state at aggregate and sectoral level seems to be highly essential for understanding employment absorptive capacity of this thriving economy.
